Finding your place in private equity

The Private Equity Ecosystem connects companies with capital, and behind it is a wide network of professionals making it happen. From fundraising to investment, secondaries to portfolio management, there’s a role to suit a range of skills and personal styles.

Watch our video to understand how the ecosystem works and find the role that plays to your strengths.

The Ecosystem at a glance

The Private Equity Ecosystem enables the flow of capital from Limited Partners (LPs) - like pension funds, endowments, and insurers - into funds managed by General Partners (GPs). GPs deploy this capital into companies, actively managing their investments to produce returns for the LPs.

The secondaries market provides liquidity to both LPs and GPs.

This dynamic ecosystem supports a range of career paths, catering to different skills and personal styles, from financial analysis and investment to fundraising and portfolio management.
Who fits where?

  • GP roles: Suited to driven, competitive people with an investment mindset who thrive in a dealmaking environment and are excited to create value in their portfolio companies
  • LP roles: Ideal for analytical thinkers focused on long-term investment decisions, portfolio construction and fostering strong relationships with GPs
  • Investor Relations: Perfect for communicators skilled in managing relationships, crafting narratives, and translating performance into clear, investor-friendly messages
  • Secondaries: Great for those with a knack for modelling, valuation, macro-economics and structuring transactions to facilitate liquidity
