Having launched our Life Sciences practice last year, Annelie Murray shares her perspective on the market and our involvement in the industry

As the landscape of Life Sciences investment evolves, so does the emphasis on building robust networks within the industry. Beyond merely understanding the intricacies of fund strategies, we actively contribute to strengthening the fabric of connections that bind investors and businesses.

Being involved in the industry

Life Sciences and Healthcare represent significant sectors in private investing, boasting over 80 venture funds in Europe alone. For the past six months, we have demonstrated our commitment to this space by sponsoring and participating in key conferences and events, including industry-leading events BioTrinity and BioEquity.

In March this year, we were delighted to sponsor Breaking 7%, a notable networking group in the US focused on women in Life Sciences investing. Recently, this platform expanded to Europe through the efforts of Rabab Nasrallah from Earlybird, a Tech and Life Sciences investment group. As sponsors of Breaking 7%, we facilitated an engaging dinner event in Paris, gathering 25 women across different career levels. The discussions ranged from deal flow to career progression, reflecting a vibrant exchange of ideas and insights.

Life Sciences experts

In response to market dynamics, we've observed investors expressing concerns about the time spent on hiring for portfolio businesses. Here at PER, we pride ourselves on being genuine Life Sciences experts, deeply understanding fund strategies and invested businesses. This expertise is invaluable, particularly considering that many investors in Life Sciences come from industry backgrounds.

Our commitment extends beyond understanding; we actively contribute to building networks within the industry. By conducting C-suite and Board searches for portfolio companies, we have strengthened our position as trusted partners for both investors and businesses alike. Despite recent market challenges leading to slower hiring trends, there's still optimism for professionals seeking roles in Life Sciences. Partners are actively seeking exceptional individuals, particularly those who can contribute to diversity initiatives and align with long-term fund strategies. This emphasis on diversity hiring is not just a trend; it's a strategic imperative driven by LPs and essential for sustainable growth in the industry.
